LEGACIES OF WAR

Description

Just a few hundred metres from the Derzhprom building I visited Kharkiv’s military rehab hospital.

ALL THE CLICHES APPLY

The most modern part of the facility was its facade. Inside it was, well, Soviet era. Dark and drab and cracked and peeled. There was no natural light; a staleness that exuded from every wall. For soldiers serving their country it conveyed a perfunctory tale of simultaneous acceptance and hopelessness.

These are the faces of those who will bear the physical and or emotional scars of this war.
